Young members of Eastbourne Swimming Club have taken part in their second development gala of 2017 at the Freedom Leisure pool in Crowborough.

This was a much smaller team for this event, with over 25% of the team never having competed before outside of Eastbourne Swimming Club’s own events.

Amazingly they all took it in their stride and swan their hearts out, competing without wavering against two teams from Crowborough (Beacon) and one from Lewes.

The gala consisted of forty three races in total, over a two hour period, with points being awarded on a sliding scale down from first place to fourth. By the half way point Eastbourne were just in second place. There was all to swim for!

By the end of event forty Eastbourne Swimming Club had slightly slipped to third by a matter of a few points, but with the last squadron relays being worth double points the final result could be anyone’s.

The last race was all just noise and splashing from the supporting swimmers and the crowd alike. Everyone was on their feet and the atmosphere was electric! The starter went and the young swimmers from Eastbourne gave all they had, what a performance, narrowly being touched out by less than a second.
