15 young swimmers from Eastbourne Swimming Club gave up their Saturday (8 April) to raise money for charity.
The group, all aged between 6 and 17, took part in a swimathon for Marie Curie Cancer Care. They were split into three teams, with five in each of three lanes. Each team took on the 5k challenge, and swam 200 lengths between them, split accordingly based on age and ability.
Jennilee Phillips, who organised Eastbourne Swimming Club’s entry said, “The atmosphere was amazing, with other members of the club, family and friends all turning up to support the swimmers. The Eastbourne Swimming Club team spirit is strong and this really shows when we do events such as these, the swimmers were fantastic and should all be very proud of themselves!”
So far, the team has raised over £800. However, with their JustGiving page still running, they’re hoping they could hit £1000.
