A block of flats in Eastbourne had to be evacuated last night (22 April), after a fire broke out.
Three fire engines were sent to Leslie Street at 10.15pm, where they found smoke issuing on arrival. The 4-storey block of 14 flats was heavily smoke logged and a full evacuation was carried out.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue report three people were rescued by firefighters, with six further people and two dogs led to safety by firefighters. A fire spokesperson also reports that one person was taken to hospital by ambulance.
At the fire’s height, crews from Eastbourne and Pevensey used six breathing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle it.
The last crew left the scene at 11.24pm.
