Has Eastbourne seen the last of the rail strikes?
Two days of fresh talks are due start today (24 April) between the RMT Union and Southern over the introduction of driver-only operations and the future role of guards.
The two sides have been wrapped up in a bitter dispute over the issue for the past year. The Union believes losing guards in favour of on board supervisors will be detrimental to passenger safety, while the rail operator say they’re just modernising the system.
Throughout the war of words, Eastbourne commuters have seen 31 days of strike action, which has impacted commuters and businesses.
