Eastbourne took a step back in time yesterday (23 April).
An Edwardian tea party was held at the café in Hampden Park to try and recreate a photograph found from c1908.
The day was joined by the Eastbourne Silver Band and cream teas served to raise money for the Mayor’s Charities. Scones, cream and jam were donated by Tesco, with Tony at the Chalet donating all of the tea. A total of 107 cream teas were sold, notching up £321 for good causes.
The Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Pat Hearn said, “It’s just people coming along and having a nice afternoon and chat and a cup of tea. When they suggested any proceeds should go to the Mayor’s charities, I thought that was lovely, because we’re coming to the end of the year now.”
The man behind the event was William Pratt, Chairman of the Friends of Hampden Park who added, “It arose from Facebook really, because some people saw the photo of the tea chalet and said wouldn’t it be great if we could re-create this.”
