Sussex return to red-ball action today (28 May) as they host Derbyshire in the Specsavers County Championship at The 1st Central County Ground, Hove (11.00am start).
After five successive draws to begin the Championship season, Sussex will be looking to get a victory on the board against a Derbyshire side who currently sit four points above them in the table.
Ed Joyce registered his highest ever first-class score (250) in the draw at Derby earlier this season, and has posted half-centuries in five of his seven Championship innings this summer.
Eastbourne’s Luke Wells hit a century in that match, as he and Joyce shared a second-wicket stand of 310, Sussex’s fifth-highest of all-time. Lewis Hatchett claimed figures of 5 for 58 in the first innings.
Sussex have since drawn at Worcestershire in the Championship and will be hoping that last Friday’s victory over Gloucestershire in the NatWest T20 Blast inspires them to a winning formula in the four-day arena.
Luke Wright is continuing his rehabilitation following a back injury but will not be risked for this match so Ben Brown continues as captain. Chris Jordan remains with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. Stuart Whittingham will make his home debut for Sussex if selected.
