County cricket makes a return to The Saffrons, Eastbourne today (14 May) after a 17-year absence, when Sussex Sharks take on Gloucestershire in the Royal London One-Day Cup (11.00am start).
List A cricket was regularly held at The Saffrons for thirty years from 1970 onwards, with tomorrow's game the first county match at the ground since Sussex welcomed Northamptonshire in August 2000.
The Sharks are currently sat in third spot of the South Group table with two games remaining, as they aim to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. They lie three points shy of Somerset and Essex who occupy the first two places, and a point clear of Hampshire in fourth. The top three teams qualify for the knockout stages.
Jerome Taylor took a stunning hat-trick for the Sharks last Wednesday against Essex at Chelmsford but despite half-centuries from Chris Nash and Stiaan van Zyl, and a late onslaught from Jofra Archer, Sussex were narrowly beaten by 10 runs.
The squad remains the same for tomorrow's clash with wicketkeeper Ben Brown, who has played for Eastbourne in the Sussex Premier League, still missing with a fractured finger. Gloucestershire can include former Sussex recruits Chris Liddle and Eastbourne-born Tom Smith in their squad.
The match is sponsored by IEP Financial and we thank them for all their support.
