Hampden Park level crossing was out of action for nearly 6 hours in the early hours of this morning (18 May), including rush hour.
A fault at around 3.45am, prevented the barrier from working, so for safety, Network Rail lowered it to the down position until the fault was fixed. Sussex Police diverted traffic and pedestrians via alternative routes.
Engineers found the problem was with the power supply and the crossing was re-opened just after 9am.
A Network Rail spokesperson said, “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
