eastbourne buzz news - Inshore lifeboat beachy head

A mass search was conducted at the foot of Beachy Head this morning (30 May) after fears a car had gone over the cliffs.

Two people in a small rowing dinghy had reported seeing the wreck of a car beneath the cliff, prompting the launch of both the Eastbourne Lifeboats, the Coastguard cliff rescue unit and rescue helicopter 163.

The search was carried out between Holywell and Birling Gap, but on finding the vehicle and on speaking further to those who’d reported it, it was confirmed the wreck was from a previous incident and that it had been on the beach for some time.

The shout out has been logged as a false alarm with good intent.
