A group of travellers that arrived in Eastbourne last week, have failed to meet an order to move on.
Several caravans arrived at the waterworks car park in Prince William Parade last Wednesday (17 May) and were issued Direction Notices on Thursday, giving them 24 hours to leave.
However, they are still yet to move on. The Borough Council visited the site this morning (23 May) and spoke with them. A refuse collection was carried out for their rubbish, which was bagged and placed by them in one corner at the authority’s request.
The council team is now liaising with the legal department to obtain a court date and once this has been confirmed, a summons will be served on the group to attend court to seek eviction notices.
A Borough Council spokesperson said, “We are continuing with enforcement action against the illegal encampment.
“Together with Sussex Police and the Traveller Liaison Team we will continue to monitor the site and a further visit is being made by officers this afternoon (23 May).”
