Southern have again announced that sickness among its drivers and conductors could hit Eastbourne commuters.
The firm, which runs trains in and out of the town has now taken the decision to pre-cancel some services, to try and help people to plan their journeys better, rather than finding out short notice that their train won’t be running.
However, the RMT Union, which represents conductors in the company, is hitting out at the company for blaming its members for disruption to services. It says pointing the finger at staff for delays and cancellations is putting their members at risk of attacks and assaults by members of the public. Instead, the RMT says the reason for delays and cancellations are down to a shortage of staff caused by a failure by the company to hire enough workers.
