The Eastbourne Eagles take a patched-up team to defending league champions Birmingham tonight (7 June) for a crucial National League match.
The Eagles will be without four of their regular team – new No 1 Tom Brennan, Mark Baseby, captain Georgie Wood and new reserve Matt Saul.
In come guest replacements Matt Williamson at No 1, Tom Perry at No 5 and Taylor Hampshire at reserve.
Baseby’s four programmed rides will be covered by other team members under the rider replacement regulations.
Jake Knight, a member of last year’s KO Cup winning team, makes his seasonal debut.
Wood was airlifted to hospital after a bad crash on Sunday afternoon while riding grasstrack. It was initially thought he had a broken pelvis but that proved not to be the case. He is on the mend but not fit enough to ride.
15-year-old Brennan has a history exam this afternoon and cannot make it to the West Midlands in time, while Baseby is on holiday, booked before he signed for the Eagles. Saul, who only signed at the weekend, has prior work commitments.
Connor Dugard, team manager said, “The IT First Eagles always travel with the intention of getting a result. This is no exception.”
