eastbourne buzz news - Maria Caulfield Sweating In

Newly re-elected Polegate MP, Maria Caulfield, has taken the oath of allegiance allowing her to sit in Parliament.

Following each General Election the elected Members of Parliament must swear an oath of allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors. Maria Caulfield joined a queue of 642 MPs, all but the Speaker and the Sinn Fein MPs who refuse the oath, and used a copy of the New Testament to swear her allegiance.

Speaking after taking her oath Maria Caulfield said, “I am very pleased to have been returned to Parliament to continue the hard work that I started just two years ago. It is truly an honour to be able to continue to represent this great constituency and to finish many ongoing projects.

“Now that I have been sworn in I am able to once again speak up for the people of Lewes during debates in the House of Commons.”
