An Eastbourne councillor has been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Paul Metcalfe, who represents Sovereign Ward on the Borough Council, has been made an MBE for his services to the RNLI, where he was formerly the Operational Manager.
Speaking to Eastbourne Buzz, Councillor Metcalfe spoke of his delight at receiving the honour, “I feel very proud. It’s an absolute honour and privilege to receive this award and honour from Her Majesty, The Queen and this is for my family. My family has put up with over 30 years of my involvement with Eastbourne Lifeboats. Such was the case that I had to miss birthday parties, I had to miss school organisational bits and pieces and I almost had to miss the birth of my son, as we had a call out on the day he was born. I cannot say how much my family has supported me over the 30 years, Marie, Nicola, my son Robert and my obviously my wife, Maureen. They have been my main stay of having me there and making sure I was part of Eastbourne Lifeboat for that many years.”
