Polegate MP and NHS nurse, Maria Caulfield, is encouraging new blood donors to come forward in Lewes after seeing figures that only 1869 people are registered blood donors.
This week is National Blood Week Ms Caulfield has joined the Be There Campaign to encourage us to become blood donors.
NHS Blood and Transplant figures show that only 1869 people, or 2.1% of the population, in the Lewes constituency are registered as blood donors.
Maria Caulfield MP said, “As someone who has worked in the NHS for over 20 years I know just how important it is to have a good supply of blood for patients. This is only possible with the support of amazing people giving blood regularly.
“When you give blood, you can save someone’s life while going about your own. All you need to do is give blood, and you’ll be right there, helping someone when they need it.”
Register to give blood, register online or call 0300 123 23 23 to find your nearest session.
