Members of Eastbourne Mencap are performing Cinderella this afternoon (28 June).
After months of rehearsals, they’re finally taking to the stage for one performance only at The Hive in Pevensey Road.
Director and Producer, Melvin Morley said, “We’re taking it back to its roots in Germany. It’s not a pantomime. We’ve taken out the stepmother, so it’s really just Cinderella, the two sisters, the prince, his assistant, the fairy godmother and her assistant. It’s simple, straightforward plot, with plenty of German and Austrian music to give it a flavour of 19th Century Germany.”
Andy Billings, Day Centre Manager added, “It shows that people with learning disabilities can do stuff like normal people can do. It just proves that they’re the same as everyone really. We want them to feel empowered and enjoy themselves as they’ve all been looking forward to the production.”
