What do you think about plans to move East Sussex Register Office from Eastbourne Town Hall to Hastings?
The County Council’s looking for our opinions on the issue, which they’re proposing would come into effect from 1 September 2016.
Legislation requires East Sussex County Council to provide a statutory Register Office containing a ‘Superintendent Registrar’s Office’. The legislation also requires that all notices of marriage and civil partnership which have been attested over the last 28 days are put on public display in the same building. At present the statutory room is provided in a working office within the Registration suite of offices at Eastbourne Town Hall, with the public display screen being located on the Eastbourne reception desk. This proposal would see the statutory room relocated to a working office within the Registration suite of offices at Hastings Town Hall and the public display screen relocated onto the Hastings reception desk.
County Hall says all three ceremony rooms in Eastbourne would remain available for weddings and civil partnerships and not further changes are being considered.
Anyone wishing to pass comment on the proposals, should submit them to Eastbourne Town Hall by the end of the month.
