Polegate MP, Maria Caulfield, has been appointed to the House of Commons’ Northern Ireland Select Committee.
Dr Andrew Murrison MP is to chair the committee, which is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the Northern Ireland Office and its associated public bodies.
Maria Caulfield is the daughter of Irish immigrants to England and has extensive knowledge of both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. She was therefore seen as an ideal candidate to take on the role.
Maria said, “I am very pleased to have been appointed to the Northern Ireland Select Committee. I am looking forward to helping shape and to scrutinise Government policy on Northern Ireland, especially at this crucial time during Brexit negotiations when the issues of our only land border with the EU, in Northern Ireland, will be so important.”
