Polegate MP Maria Caulfield has welcomed a report published by the Institute for Fiscal Studies showing that the gap between the richest and poorest households in the UK has narrowed in the last decade.
This is in part because of the significant rise in employment since 2010, with 2.9 million more people having the security of work.
The Government has also introduced the National Living Wage, boosting workers’ earnings by £1,400 a year, and cut taxes for millions of people to help them keep more of what they earn.
Maria Caulfield said, “I welcome the fall in inequality. We are building an economy that works for everyone by sharing prosperity and opportunity throughout the United Kingdom so nobody is held back because of where they come from.
“The Government will continue to help people in their everyday lives, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to go as far as their talents will take them.”
