Eastbourne Steampunk Festival is a free festival, presented by Eastbourne Bonfire Society which comes to Eastbourne seafront from 9-10 September, to celebrate a fantasy era which sees the Victorian period meeting with the cyber-world, in which festival goers can escape into a quirky unknown universe.
Visitors to Eastbourne over the weekend can step into a world of curiosities and wonders, as entertainers, traders, dancers and more, dressed head to toe in Steampunk attire, fill Eastbourne seafront from the Wish Tower slopes to the Bandstand, bringing the imagination of Steampunk to life!
From mad scientists to time travellers, the promenade will be filled with eye-catching and mind-boggling costumes, as Steampunk fanatics take the opportunity to live the lives of their cyber Victorian alter egos through eccentric and experimental dress.
Steampunk is a very family friendly festival and visitors will find plenty to keep all ages entertained and the imaginations of young children expanded, tea duelling, crockery smashing, bouncy castle, giant inflatable slide and face-painting. A variety of stalls including speciality Steampunk will line the Promenade. Steampunk mixes the imagination of the gaming world with some traditional activities of the Victorian era.
The live music stage with a wide range of music genres will entertain the crowds from 10am to 5pm on both days, alongside this there will be a variety of drumming groups, Morris Dancers and Exotic Dancers. Other attractions include Winters Children’s Fairground and Acting Moon Events. Eastbourne Bonfire Society is very pleased to welcome Raystede Animal Welfare Centre to the event, as one of Eastbourne Bonfire Society’s chosen charities this year.
The wondrous world of Steampunk transforms into an even more mysterious world by night, as Saturday 9 September welcomes the Steampunk Fundraising Masquerade Ball at the Underground Theatre.
For £15 a ticket, guests to the ball can go masked and mysterious or simply enjoy the spectacle of a Steampunk ball which features performances from the nationally acclaimed Steampunk band, Victor and the Bully and a very popular local band, Bedraggled. The ball is for over 18s and all money raised, goes towards the funding of Eastbourne Bonfire Society’s Bonfire Procession on 1 October.
