Emergency services were called into action this morning (7 June) to reports of a man in the sea.
His partner called for help after he got into trouble, whilst swimming out to an anchored vessel.
The Inshore Lifeboat, Eastbourne Coastguard and coastguard helicopter were launched around 9.10am to look for the man, thought to be about a mile out to sea off the coast near the Sovereign Centre.
He was later seen staggering ashore near Sovereign Harbour and was helped by the lifeboat crew.
He was passed to the care of paramedics and has been taken to hospital.
