Fly-tipping in Eastbourne will cost you.

The Borough Council’s warning anyone caught dumping rubbish at household recycling sites will face a fine of up to £1000.

The authorities Neighbourhood First Team recently issued three fixed penalty notices after waste was left at the Wartling Road site – each fine was for £75, but that can shoot up to £1000 if the case goes to court.

Councillor Steve Wallis, Lead Cabinet Member for Place Services, said: “We provide various recycling banks and ‘bring sites’ across the town to help people recycle waste from their homes.

“However, there are occasions when people are misusing these facilities by illegally dumping rubbish on the ground in these areas. This not only creates an eyesore but costs local taxpayers’ money to arrange clearance for these unwanted items.

“We take this anti-social behaviour seriously and are investigating these cases thoroughly to find out who is responsible.”
