British Parliamentarians, including Polegate MP, Maria Caulfield, have sent a joint letter to the UN Secretary General calling for urgent action to be taken to resolve the civil war and humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
Yemen is the world’s forgotten conflict and the humanitarian consequences of the war are devastating. Over 10,000 people have died, 500,000 have been infected with the water borne disease Cholera and millions lack regular access to clean food and water.
The letter calls on UN General Secretary, António Guterres, to add Yemen to the agenda at the United Nations General Assembly meeting on 13 September and to push for a new United Nations Security Council resolution to bring the two-year civil war to an end.
Maria Caulfield said, “What is happening in Yemen is a tragedy of unimaginable proportions. The world must not turn a blind eye to this issue or let it be pushed off the agenda.
“I have signed this letter to make sure that the UN Secretary General knows the strength of feeling and concern about Yemen here in the UK.”
