Eastbourne’s taking a step back in time this weekend (9-10 September), as the Steampunk Festival returns.
Taking place on the seafront, it’s a chance to dare to be different and dress up in Victorian regalia with a touch of science.
The promenade between the Wish Tower Slopes and the bandstand will be packed with stalls and entertainment, including dancers, tea duelling, crockery smashing, bouncy castle, giant inflatable slide and face-painting. The live music stage with a wide range of music genres will entertain the crowds from 10am to 5pm on both days, as well as a variety of drumming groups and Morris Dancers. Other attractions include Winters Children’s Fairground and Acting Moon Events.
The event, which is organised by Eastbourne Bonfire Society, will also see a Steampunk Fundraising Masquerade Ball at the Underground Theatre tonight (9 September).
Priced at £15 a ticket, guests to the ball can go masked and mysterious or simply enjoy the spectacle of a Steampunk ball, which features performances from the nationally acclaimed Steampunk band, Victor and the Bully and a very popular local band, Bedraggled. The ball is for over 18s and all money raised, goes towards the funding of Eastbourne Bonfire Society’s Bonfire Procession on 1 October.
