Polegate MP, Maria Caulfield, has welcomed the announcement of new powers to enforce parking restrictions outside of schools.
Previously Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) could only issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) in person, meaning that offenders would simply drive off and avoid punishment. Now, East Sussex County Council has brought in new rules meaning that PCNs can be issued through the post after the incident has occurred. It is hoped that these powers will stop people parking in restricted areas outside school.
Maria Caulfield MP said, “I frequently have parents contacting me worried about parking outside of schools, concerned that people are parking right outside schools on yellow zig zags. This is making it dangerous for children trying to arrive or leave school.
“I hope that these new powers will act as a deterrent and make people think twice about dangerously parking outside of schools.”
