The proposed closure of libraries in Polegate, Pevensey Bay, Langney and Willingdon has already been condemned by the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives, now Labour is also slamming the move.
The County Council, which is under Tory control, is looking at closing a total of seven libraries across East Sussex, with a view to saving £653,000. They’re citing a considerable drop in the number of people using libraries as a reason for cutting services.
Already, Eastbourne’s LibDem MP, along with the MPs for Pevensey Bay and Polegate, who are both Conservative, have slated the proposals, urging County Hall to think again.
Now Eastbourne Labour Party is also saying it is wrong to close such facilities. Their parliamentary spokesman for Eastbourne and Willingdon has been speaking to Eastbourne Buzz about the issue:
