On Sunday (17 September), five swimmers form Eastbourne Swimming Clubs Masters section competed in the Sussex County Championships in Burgess Hill, with amazing results and representing this great town of ours with pride.
Collectively the team amassed a staggering 17 Gold medals, 10 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals, collecting 5 county records along the way. Every swimmer came in the top 3 in every event they swam.
Coach Wendy Prichard (50-54yrs age group) led the way with three county records resulting in 3 gold medals in the 25m Backstroke, 100m Individual Medley and 100m Backstroke.
Kirsty Krouwel (35-39yrs) achieved a county record and gold in the 25m Breaststroke, gold in the 50m Freestyle and silver in both the 50m and 25m Butterfly.
Ian Woodward (45-49yrs) accomplished a gold in the 25m Freestyle and silvers in 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 25m Butterfly.
Neil Smith (50-54yrs) attained a county record and gold in 100m Freestyle, with three more golds in 50m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and 100m Individual Medley.
Dave Cumming (75-79yrs) pulled off five golds in 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 25m Butterfly, 25m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley, with a silver in the 50m Backstroke.
And finally, Adrian Wright (18-24yrs), our youngest competing master achieved gold in the 100m Butterfly and silver in both the 100m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley.
The swimmers also managed to gain medals in the mixed Freestyle relays; Gold in the 120yrs+ age group, and bronze in both the 160yrs+ and 200yrs+.
Altogether the team gave a great performance and deserve huge congratulations. GO TEAM EASTBOURNE!
