There are fears the introduction of Universal Credit will plunge 2,700 families further into debt by 2020 in Eastbourne.

Both the town’s Citizens’ Advice Bureau and Foodbank are calling for a pause in the proceedings, fear many will be left out of pocket come 11 October, when the system is launched here.

Universal Credit is the new way benefits will be paid and will see claimants receive Job Seeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, income support, Working Tax Credit, Child tax benefit and housing benefit in one payment, direct to their bank account.
