Josh Bailey was left to fly the Eastbourne Eagles at the National League Riders’ Championship this afternoon (24 September).
He was due to be joined in the line-up by Jake Knight.
Knight withdrew before the start and his place was taken by Chris Widman.
The Eastbourne No 1 seized his motor last night at Belle Vue and his other engine is due a service, so he was not prepared to take the risk and race today.
Bailey went on to finish with eight points from his five rides, including one heat win.
He came close to beating eventual champion Dan Bewley in heat 19 but an inside run to the chequered flag gave the Belle Vue man the win.
Bewley took the title with a 15 point maximum
