An Eastbourne United player remains in hospital after a 50/50 challenge during last night’s (3 October) Sussex Senior Cup clash with Steyning Town, left him with a head injury.
Matt Simpson was substituted off, after an initial spell on the floor, but collapsed in the dressing room, prompting an ambulance to be called. Two rapid response units and a paramedic unit were quickly on the scene to assess him, before he was taken to hospital in Brighton.
A scan showed that Matt had suffered a skull fracture, although, thankfully, no bone displacement has occurred, which means the injury should heal by itself, with no long-lasting effects. It’s hoped Matt will be able to leave hospital within the next 24 hours.
