Eastbourne and Willingdon MP Caroline Ansell has welcomed news that unemployment in the constituency has halved since 2010.
New figures show 1069 people were jobless last month in Eastbourne and Willingdon, down 1071 from six years ago.
Nationally, the employment rate remains at a record high, youth unemployment is down and wages are rising.
“To see a 50% fall in those unemployed in our town is absolutely fabulous news and it shows the Government has done a very effective job at encouraging a business climate where jobs are created,” said Caroline.
“I am particularly pleased there are an extra 1.1 million women now in work than back in 2010 and there have been falls in youth unemployment, which was a big problem six years ago, but it has been successfully tackled by policies such as increased access to apprenticeships.
“There remain too many people still needing to find employment in Eastbourne, so the job is certainly not done, but the trend is going in the right direction and long may it continue.”
