Eastbourne Inshore Lifeboat was launched yesterday afternoon (25 June) to reports of 20 young men in the water near the pier.
On arrival, they found one clinging to the metal framework, after he’d frozen 50 metres along the landmark.
Lifeguards saw him jump from the pier and went to help, but couldn't talk him down, prompting the RNLI to be called.
Others were in the water concerned, but weren’t in trouble. It’s believed the group had been celebrating beforehand.
The man was rescued and taken back to shore where he was handed to police.
