The Civil Service Bowls Association is holding its Annual International Championships and Tournament in Eastbourne this July, as England is given its turn to host the competition which is rotated between the four home countries every year.
The Eastbourne Bowling Club in Saffrons Road will play host to teams of bowlers from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales from 4 – 7 July and the tournament will see teams competing each morning and afternoon on a round robin basis in Singles, Pairs, Triples, Fours and Double Fours.
Following on from previous tournaments in Cheltenham, Cardiff, Belfast and Perth, Eastbourne’s opportunity to host the sport’s Championships, will be officially declared open on Monday 4 July at 9.00am by the town’s Mayor, Councillor Pat Hearn before the International Series commences for four days of exciting play.
On Monday (4 July), the draw has resulted in England playing Scotland in the Singles and Triples in the morning, and then Pairs and Fours in the afternoon. Whilst on the second green, Northern Ireland will play Wales.
The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Pat Hearn said “It’s fantastic that the Civil Service Bowls Association has chosen Eastbourne as the destination for this year’s Championships, there is a big following of the sport within the town and I’ve no doubt the event will attract a high number of spectators, as well as some excellent bowlers.”
“I extend a very warm invitation to all Eastbourne bowlers or non-bowlers to stop by at the Eastbourne Bowling Club at any time to view the matches which are all played in a competitive yet cordial atmosphere. I also take this opportunity to welcome the competitors from all four home countries to Eastbourne and wish them all a thoroughly enjoyable stay here.”
The International Series continues over the four days with an additional Pairs competition being held for those members attending who are not taking part in the main event. Food and refreshments will be available at the event every day.
It is customary in whichever country and town the tournament is being held, for the participating players to play local teams in friendly matches each evening. Games have been arranged at Victoria Drive Bowling Club, Hampden Park Bowling Club and Parade Bowling Club on the evening of Monday 4 July.
Followed by matches against the Eastbourne League, Motcombe Gardens Bowling Club, Royal Sovereign Bowling Club and St. Johns Bowling Club at Eastbourne Bowling Club on Tuesday 5 July, and at Hailsham, St. Johns and Eastbourne on Wednesday 6 July.
