An Eastbourne police officer’s to be remembered with a charity walk from Devil’ Dyke to Eastbourne this weekend (9-10 July).
PC Gav McKay died of cancer last year at the age of 31, leaving behind his wife and three young children.
His colleagues will be taking on the 40 mile stretch of the South Downs Way, trekking through day and night non-stop to raise money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice in his memory.
Gav’s friend and colleague PC Chris Wright said, “Gav had the most fantastic sense of humour. Given that he was always the life and soul of any group made it even more shocking when his illness spread so quickly and he passed away. Whilst giving us an opportunity to share our happy memories of Gav, we hope that the 'Walk for Gav' event will be both fun and challenging. We'd dearly love to raise a fantastic sum for the hospice in his name.”
