There are more calls for Southern to be stripped of its franchise.
The leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, David Tutt, is the latest to say ‘enough is enough’ for commuters.
His call comes just two days before Southern introduce a new reduced timetable, which will see some 341 services axed every day, as the company struggles to end an ongoing row with members of the RMT Union, over the introduction of driver-only trains, whilst also dealing with an abnormally high level of staff sickness.
Speaking to Eastbourne Buzz, Councillor Tutt said, “I am appalled that the Government have agreed to this "temporary" timetable. Commuters have been suffering from daily delays and cancellations for weeks and visitors travelling by train have encountered severe delays. The Government should be ending the Southern franchise and finding a more reliable operator not condoning this action.”
