The next Prime Minister will be from Eastbourne.
Theresa May will move into Downing Street on Wednesday, after her rival for the position, Andrea Leadsom pulled out of the race earlier today (11 July).
Home Secretary, Mrs May, was born in Eastbourne and has had the backing of the town’s MP Caroline Ansell, to become the leader of the Conservative Party since she announced her desire for the job.
Polegate's MP, Maria Caulfield was backing Andrea Leadsom for PM, but has tweeted her support for Mrs May now that the decision is clear.
Pevensey's MP, Huw Merriman has also tweeted his delight at the news.
Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne has said she'll miss working with Mrs May.
I'll miss working with Theresa as Home Sec & her commitment to ending violence against women. I wish her all success pic.twitter.com/zdCrwxTRhz— Katy Bourne (@KatyBourne) July 11, 2016
Theresa May is expected to take up office on Wednesday evening, after David Cameron formerly offers his resignation as Prime Minister to The Queen at Buckingham Palace.
