Eastbourne Police Offer Advice To Traders

Wednesday 13th July 2016

eastbourne buzz news - Police Car

Eastbourne Police have become aware that some traders working away from the town have had their vehicles targeted by thieves who force open windows and doors to steal cash, tools and small saleable items from the interior.

One recent case involved the theft of £6000 worth of tools from Eastbourne decorators working on a job in Lewisham.

It has prompted Sussex officers to remind businesses and employees to review their security arrangements and procedures to avoid becoming victims, wherever they may be working.

Advice includes:

  • Remove any costly items from the vehicle or out of view from the street.
    • Secure all equipment and stock to prevent easy and quick access.
    • Ensure all locks are in good order and remove keys from the vehicle.
    • Empty all monies and documents from the vehicle.
    • Fix up notices and signs advising that there is no equipment or monies left in the vehicle.
    • Register your tools and items on www. immobilse.com

If you see any suspicious behaviour around your vehicle please contact police on 101 or, if a crime appears to be imminent or in progress, dial 999.
