On Friday, Saturday and Sunday (8, 9 and 10 July) Eastbourne Police carried out a proactive operation targeting the supply of drugs within the town.

Officers were joined by Sussex and Surrey Police drugs dogs and over the three days the team patrolled the town centre searching anyone suspected of carrying drugs, as indicated by the specially-trained dogs.

As a result, five people were dealt with for possession of Class B cannabis.

Two others were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A controlled drugs heroin and crack cocaine, and two more were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply. These four people have all been bailed until 5 October while enquiries continue.

Eastbourne District Police Commander Chief Inspector Emma Brice, said, "This is another tactic that will be used in Eastbourne to counteract the supply of drugs into the town. The numerous successful stops and arrests that were made over the weekend show once again that Eastbourne is not a place where drug dealers can feel safe to continue their illicit trade.”

Any information relating to the supply of drugs in Sussex can be passed to police by emailing on or phoning 101.

Alternatively details can be submitted to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 1111
