Polegate’s MP has welcomed the appointment of Chris Grayling as Transport Secretary, who will be joined by Andrew Jones & Lord Ahmad, who each become Under-Secretaries of State within the Department, as well as Paul Maynard who replaces Claire Perry as Rail Minister.
Commenting on the new appointments, Maria Caulfield said, “As the Member of Parliament for Epsom & Ewell, Chris Grayling already has a good hold on the concerns facing rail users and their families, with his own constituency being served by the Southern franchise.
“The new Transport Secretary has already proven his commitment to resolve the issue gripping Southern customers, recently stating that solving the dispute is his ‘top priority’.
“I also very much look forward to working with Paul Maynard in his new role as Rail Minister. Paul has a real determination in whatever he does, always ensuring that the people he is representing are at the forefront of the actions that he takes, and I expect that his approach to the Southern dispute will be no different.
“Like the Transport Secretary, bringing this issue to a close remains my top priority, and I will continue to work alongside parliamentary colleagues to ensure that a resolution is reached as quickly as possible.”
Ms Caulfield has already requested a meeting with the new Transport Secretary, when she will raise with him directly the unacceptable fact that her constituents in Seaford & Newhaven have seen the number of trains on their branch line cut by some 80% following the new timetable being imposed by Southern last week, with families, businesses and individuals very much suffering as a consequence.
