The former Mayor of Eastbourne has presented two local charities with more than £13,500 collected through a year of fundraising.
Councillor Janet Coles, who was Mayor before Councillor Pat Hearn took over the role in May, named Eastbourne RNLI and The JPK Sussex Project for her chosen charities of 2015/6.
Many different fundraising activities included the Mayor’s Charity Ball, a barn dance, car wash and a barbecue. Funds for the two charities were also boosted by the Bourne to be Wild team comprising a group of Eastbourne Borough Council staff who recently completed the Ben Nevis Challenge and raised more than £3,500.
Cllr Coles said, “Thank you to everyone who supported these events and helped raise the impressive sum of £13,591.69, which will be split between the two charities.
“The work they carry out is very different but equally important and I’m pleased to have been able to play a part in highlighting these good causes.”
The JPK Sussex Project supports people with learning disabilities, providing accommodation, training and work experience from its centre at Edgmond Church in Old Town.
Eastbourne RNLI was established in 1892 to save lives at sea and relies on fundraising and donations to continue operating.
