Eastbourne fire crews dealt with four calls in less than two hours last night (31 July).

Their first took them to Jevington Road, Polegate, at 7.46pm, where a fire had been started deliberately with a magnifying glass in the open. It was out when crews arrived.

Then, at 8.20pm, they rescued a person from a lift in Upperton Road, Eastbourne, before being called to Latimer Road at 9.10pm. A shed had accidentally caught alight and a man was treated at the scene by paramedics after breathing in smoke.

Their final call came in at 9.30pm, where they used buckets of water to put out an accidental bin fire at Langney Point.
