Hundreds of people turned out to protest against the proposed sale of the freehold of the Downland farms in Eastbourne yesterday (25 February).
The Borough Council is considering selling the freehold to raise funds for capital projects in the town. A poll in the Eastbourne Review, is asking the public if they would support this move, or if they would rather see cuts to frontline services.
The campaign group, Keep Our Downs Public, disputes both options, saying the poll isn’t a fair choice. They have long called for a full public consultation into the sale and now, frustrated at the response they’re getting from Town Hall, have taken their feelings to the streets.
Starting at Bankers Corner, they marched through the town centre to the bandstand, where a short rally was held.
